Product Information
L-Menthol is an organic substance, the chemical formula is C10H20O, chemical properties of colorless needle-like crystals, with a cool minty aroma, soluble in ethanol, acetone, ether, chloroform and benzene and other organic solvents, slightly soluble in water. Chemically stable, can be volatilized with the vapor.
Menthol is made in the leaves, the main component of peppermint oil, and is a cyclic monoterpene. It is a highly volatile essential oil produced by the plant, and is composed mostly of sesquiterpenes, monoterpenes, and sesquiterpenes, especially in warmer climates. Some important plant pigments are terpenoids or compounds containing terpenoid groups.
Synthesis of L-Menthol
Menthol can be purified from natural peppermint crude oil or synthesized.
The essential oil obtained by steam distillation of the aboveground parts (stems; branches; leaves and inflorescences) of the plant Mentha piperita, family Labiatae, is called menthol crude oil, with an oil yield of 0.5-0.6.
There are various methods of synthesizing menthol
1. Manufacturing from citronella aldehyde Using the nature of citronella aldehyde easily cyclized into isohumeraldehyde, the right-handed citronella aldehyde is cyclized into left-handed isohumeraldehyde with acid catalysts (e.g., silica gel), and the left-handed isohumeraldehyde is separated and hydrogenated to generate left-handed menthol. Its stereo tutor conformation can be partially converted to dextro citronellal by thermal cracking, and then recycled.
2. Manufactured from thymol In the presence of m-cresol aluminum, alkylation reaction of m-cresol to generate thymol. Catalytic hydrogenation yields all four pairs of menthol stereoisomers (i.e., racemic menthol; racemic neomenthol; racemic isomenthol and racemic neoisomenthol). The isomers were isolated and optically split by distillation, elimination of the racemic menthol fraction, and repeated recrystallization after manufacture of the ester. The isolated levo-menthol esters are saponified to obtain menthol.
Uses of L-Menthol
Both menthol and racemic menthol are used as flavor enhancers in toothpaste; perfumes; beverages and candies. It can also be used as Flavor And Fragrance Intermediates. In medicine, it is used as a stimulant, acting on the skin or mucous membranes, with a cooling and itching effect; internally, it can be used as a wind-repellent drug for headache and inflammation of the nose, throat and larynx. Its ester is used in spices and medicines.
Company information
The company's main import and export products include
(1)Petrochemicals:Refers to the use of oil or natural gas as raw materials, the manufacture of chemicals in the petrochemical industry of manufactured products, the same called petrochemical products. Our Petrochemicals include special oils and fats,Solvent oil, Fuel oil and so on.
(2)Intermediates:It is a very important type of fine chemical products, the essence of a class of "semi-finished products", is the production of some products in the middle of the product, such as to produce a product, can be produced from the intermediates, cost savings, from the synthesis of pharmaceuticals, pesticides, paints, dyes and fragrances are widely used. In the pharmaceutical field, intermediates are an important link in the pharmaceutical industry chain, used in the process of drug synthesis of some chemical raw materials or chemical products, in a word, used to produce APIs.Our Intermediates products include Synthetic material intermediates, dye intermediates, Flavors and Fragrances intermediates.
